Rakeem Akile Austin Jr died on Feb. 28 after paramedics rushed him to Faulkner Hospital following the crash near 21 Washington Street, but he did not survive his injuries. The dump truck driver remained on the scene, and prosecutors have not issued any charges in the case. Police have not said who was at fault in the crash.

Austin's family created a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral and memorial and are closing in on their $10,000 goal.

They wrote the Madison Park Technical Vocational High School was a popular student beloved by his teachers who'd recently earned a job in the field he loved.

"When he attended Madison Park he mostly enjoyed his vocation which was HVAC. He received a job at Northern University through his vocation to further his skill in his trade. His dream was to have his own business in HVAC and be successful.

More than that, however, Rakeem loved his family.

"He loved being a big brother to his little siblings and making them laugh. Also, he loved his big older sister who he could rely on. However he was also a twin. He came into the world with his best friend Rakeyma, they were joined at the hip from the start. A special bond only twins would know. We can’t believe this sudden devastating occurrence.

The GoFundMe has raised $8,700 as of Wednesday, March 8.
